The Waidhofen City Railway connects Waidhofen an der Ybbs railway station with the city centre on a 3.3-kilometre route. It operates daily and, together with the city bus lines, is an essential part of public transport in Waidhofen an der Ybbs.

In the 2010s, the NÖVOG ex5090 series received a new blue service uniform. While the VT9 and VT10 carriages were wrapped in a very striking and colourful design, from 2016 onwards the VT12 was allowed to make its rounds in a much calmer and more dignified manner. Gradually, the design of almost all NÖVOG 5090s was changed to the classic Stadler gold, which now adorns almost all traction vehicles from the Himmelstreppe downwards.
The current 2025 reissue of the NÖVOG VT12 ‘Citybahn Waidhofen’ models is a technical further development of the 5090 models from HALLING Modelle. For the first time, the models are powered by two small but powerful bell-type armature motors in both bogies. This meant that the ‘sound’ of the old drive was ‘lost’, while the pulling power of the model was retained.
A new circuit board equipped with a 6-pin NEM651 interface facilitates digitisation, which you can order ‘ex works’ using the upgrade item. If you prefer to do the digitisation yourself, we can highly recommend the new ZIMO MX617N decoder.
