News 2025.10 - Berlin Urbanliner
New – now also available with carriage number 5002!
50 meters long, the new generation of BVG trams clearly outshines all previous vehicles. The new trams – called Urbanliners – are largely produced by Alstom in Bautzen, Saxony. The exemplary models, which are around 57 cm (!) long, are manufactured by the Viennese model railway company HALLING Modelle on the outskirts of Vienna and steal the show from many of the models produced to date!

The Urbanliner, a further development of the Berlin Flexity, is currently being put through its paces in Berlin. The 5002 is in use as a measuring tram. Packed with measuring instruments and loaded with sandbags instead of Berliners, it tests different driving situations and particularly challenging sections of track. The 5001 serves as a driving school car in which tram drivers are trained.
Both models of the nine-part Berliner are packed with extras, with driving pleasure naturally being the top priority! The newly developed underfloor drives are being used as standard for the first time. Similar to the large prototype, two bogies are directly driven, eliminating the need for cardan shafts. Two high-quality bell-type armature motors drive the models with low maintenance and almost no noise. Thanks to a current consumption of over 50 cm in length, the drive is also incredibly stable and powerful.
The six-pole NEM651 digital interface is located under the seat plate of the first gondola, so all cables can be routed through the model completely invisibly. Digitalization is offered ex works, but it can also be carried out in one to two minutes without tools!
